They were hatched the summer of 2013. By the time these photos were taken, all of them were done with their juvenile molt.<\/p>\n<p>The parents were either Self Fawn, Self Chocolate, or &#8220;imperfect selfs&#8221;. Most of the chicks are &#8220;imperfect selfs&#8221;, too. The Fawns and the Chocolates are unrelated. The Creaminos had Chocolate parents.<\/p>\n<p>They were handraised on Lafeber&#8217;s Nutristart. It is a rice-based formula and dissolves really well. (Except for the tiniest chick, who was still in a brooding box.) They were weaned onto Lafeber&#8217;s Finch Pellets (&#8220;Premium Daily Diet for Finches&#8221;). They like the pellets OK  &#8212; but get <strong>totally excited<\/strong> when they get eggfood, romaine, or even plain seed.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jessupaviary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/cutehandful1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-270\" alt=\"cutehandful\" src=\"http:\/\/www.jessupaviary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/cutehandful1.jpg\" width=\"461\" height=\"346\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.jessupaviary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/cutehandful1.jpg 461w, http:\/\/www.jessupaviary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/cutehandful1-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.jessupaviary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/cutehandful1-399x300.jpg 399w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 461px) 100vw, 461px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>They aren&#8217;t tame enough to pet, but they are very willing to eat goodies right out of your hand.
